in terms of keeping that workshop element, the critical aspect, i think one of the easiest ways to tell when you need to get rid of something or add something is by reading the work out loud. i find i get really really embarrassed by and want to rush through parts of a piece that aren't working or are just boring and suck. and then when i get excited, that tends to be a part that is working. and when i am reading it and am shocked that it stopped, that usually means there should be more.

this is my carefully developed scientific critical editing method.

I like how Sasha kept workshop elements in the process of writing the book. Cutting the fat. Adding more. Understanding element. It's difficult for most writers to be aware of what needs to be cut, etc, without a workshop environment. I trust that Sasha did well.

I like the mix of poetry and fiction-- I can only imagine what the line structure of this book will look like (and what I'm imagining is pretty beautiful). I loved Denis Johnson's "Jesus' Son," the short stories so tragic, and yes, organized masterfully, but this collection/book seems like it will be more humorous and just as wonderfully organized.

Other things I like and am interested in reading more about: "The need to not let the reader down. To take what you have done and to use it to make it into something even more," “emotional anchor or gravity,” "the idea of burying things."

I'm really interested to read this book. Should be good!
