I would rather be called "Messcan" or "Port-o-reekin" than a "person of color." Most people don't know what I am until they see the "González" in my name. The fact that they have to request that women and "persons of color" submit can be construed as a commitment in word, but it's for nothing if there's no deed. If you publish plenty of women and "persons of color," then you are leading by example; people see results and are encouraged. From what I see of Fence, they do a fairly good job of representing the various elements of society. At least on the face.
