There once was a video on YouTube which combined clips from a variety of Stan Brakhage films into a music video for Stereolab’s track “Brakhage”:

But the video has been removed, not to ensure the integrity of Brakhage’s images, but to protect the commercial interests of a pop band, albeit a pretty good one – so it goes.

The music in this video is labeled Stereolab’s “Brakhage,” but it most certainly is not, which means “guitaoist” most likely downloaded an mp3 which was labeled incorrectly in order to get some other, more inferior pop band some “exposure,” effectively pissing on Stereolab and Stan Brakhage at once:

Seems like the work of a lunatic or an “outsider artist” but it’s probably just some bored kid. I’m not sure I could tell the difference if I had to. He probably isn’t aware he’s in a “pissing contest.”

Unfortunately, these “pissing contests,” inadvertent or not, well-intentioned or not, unwitting or not, will probably never end, not as long as money and mediocrity exist, and let’s not kid ourselves:

For some reason they go hand in hand.
