HOW TO SEE AVATAR
Just saw Avatar. Hardcore noble savage leftist story; Dances with Sexy Blue Catgoats. (I like that it was all, “Kill the humans!”) Fucking incredible immersive 3-D. Definitely worth going, you’ll be like WHOA the whole time. I really regret seeing it in a regular state of mind. My advice is: Don’t.

In Europe many theaters couldn’t show it at a premiere day: the public was there, the movie projectors was there, the movie itself was there. But: a small “security” key, which was used to protect the movie against pirate copying and which should be sent per email at all the theaters, was ehm… not there. So, because email from FOX failed, many theaters was not able to show AVATAR.
But I’ll go there perhaps this weekend. Thinking about modificating state of mind after your post.

Wow, I bet there were some angry crowds.
Modificate away, sir.

there was a crazy premiere for that on wednesday night at the chinese theater in hollywood. bright lights and people everywhere. i think it was invite only though, because security was insane and everything was blocked off from the public.

There is no way in hell I am seeing it in a “regular” state of mind. Thanks for the heads up. It’s been a bit since a good “spectacle” film. I am ready.
I’ve been waffling about whether I want to see this. I’ll put this on my list of “possible reasons to further consider seeing it.”
But, before Avatar, which will likely be in theaters for awhile yet, The Road just finally made it to theaters in Indy, and will likely only stick around a couple weeks, so I’m going to that tonight.

I don’t think there is any possible way this movie is good.

i am not excited about this movie at all.
i am watching it for free either today or sunday at work otherwise i doubt i would pony up the $$$.
How was your brain post-movie? 3 hours of digital 3-D seems like it would be taxing.

I was pretty dazed. I wasn’t sorry I had the experience. My eyes hurt a little, but it was 3 in the morning.

All right. The nail’s officially in the coffin that it’s a big, fat fucking “NO” to this movie if this is true:
they did the subtitles in fucking Papyrus font?

Avatar was awesome. I was skeptical and I loved it. And I saw it sober.

I’m still unsure about it, and I might still go see it for the “obviously better movie to see in a theater” aspect but man, I hate papyrus so much. I suppose that’s a really trite reason to discredit a movie.

Just go see it (in 3D). You may hate it, but seriously it’s worth seeing in the theater. Sit close-ish to the screen.

I was completely blown away at how awful the writing, dialogue and acting were in this film. Like…you almost felt that Cameron was just trying to add as many Hollywood cliches and groan-inducing lines as he could into a film as some kind of experiment in shitty writing.
Visuals were pretty awesome, but this film was more of a tech demo than a film.

This is less a “obviously better to see in theater” movie than a “not even remotely worth it to see outside of a theater with 3D glasses.” Every aspect of the movie other than the visuals was painful.

I would not dispute this. The dialogue and acting and so forth are roughly comparable to Titanic and other Cameron films, with a bit more new age-y stuff. Take that as you will.

I don’t remember the dialogue being as bad in his other films. Granted, I don’t tend to see films like Transformers 2 or Twilight, but this was straight up the worst dialogue I’ve seen in a film in a long long time.
