Roxane Gay—
The 2010 Pulitzer Prizes have been announced and independent publishers did quite well for themselves in the Fiction category where Paul Harding won for Tinkers by Bellevue Literary Press. The poetry Pulitzer went to Rae Armantrout for Versed published by Wesleyan University Press. I have not read either book.

Oh Roxane, you MUST read Tinkers! It was phenomenal – probably my favorite book (next to A Farewell to Arms, of course).

Wikipedia says Wesleyan University is a “private liberal arts college.” What are those like? Are there lots of cool people? Are people cooler at private liberal arts colleges than at big public universities?

Also means you’re really close with the profs, though.

Bellevue Literary Press, as in Bellevue. Their periodical is intermittently excellent. I will be reading Tinkers.
Rae should have won about four books ago. It’s such good news — hats off to the judges.
