Nick Antosca—
A movie called Predators came out this weekend, involving a species of vicious aliens who drop a bunch of humans onto a “game preserve” jungle planet to hunt them. On the same day, I published a story called “Predator Bait,” involving shlubby men who try to hook up with young girls on the internet. I now realize both pieces could be improved by combining them, so that Adrien Brody and Laurence Fishbourne et al have to survive on a hostile jungle planet while fleeing shlubby men who want to molest them.
I’d like to see them try to molest Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, and Jesse Ventura.
Carl Weathers for Governor!
Action Jackson!
and now you’ve won an award. coincidence? i think not: http://www.shirleyjacksonawards.org/sja_2009_winners.php

Agreed.
The Most Dangerous Game
Great story btw.
Agreed.
The Fishbourne Identity would also make a kick-ass film…
Extremely well written and though I hate reading short stories on computer screens, you had me hooked until the end!!! Bravo.
And congrats on the award!!!

Damn. “The Fishbourne Identity.” Sounds cool.

Fine story, Nick.
Definitely.
I can’t believe the gawky kid from Apocalypse Now is the big froggy guy from the Predators trailer.
In a strange twist, you’ll be happy to know that one of the humans dropped onto the game preserve is a sexual predator. This leads to at least one amusing scene between the guy and Topher Grace.
“If I ever get back to Earth I’m going to rape so many fine bitches. You know?”
“Uh. Yeah. Sure. I’m going to do some of that to. Some raping.”
*too
Wait, which guy is it? Is it Walton Goggins? Danny Trejo?
thanks, guys!
I love Walton Goggins. I passed him at a farmer’s market one time. He was bearded and surprisingly petite, very charismatic looking.
oh man i’ll never be able to see him as anyone other than Shane. Guy was the best thing about “The Shield,” which is saying a lot. I heard a rumor he would no longer answer any more questions about The Shield or his role as Shane. Hope that’s not true.
Damn. “The Fishbourne Identity.” Sounds cool.
Fishburne needs to follow the advice of one Furious Styles and lose the paunch.
I don’t know if he was the single best thing, but that’s only because there were so many amazing things about the Shield, which is my favorite TV show of all time. He *was* amazing on it. Goggins is also great on Justified, especially in the pilot and the season finale.
Indeed, I may have gotten caught up in the hyperbole. WONDERFUL to hear someone else on here finds the Shield to be the favorite show evah. Right now, when I close my eyes and think “best thing” of the Shield I picture them standing around the money at the end of Season 2. That Live song is just perfect for the money shot.
I really liked him on the pilot of Justified but never got around to watching the following ones on my DVR. Will need to rent on Netflix. I figured they’d bring him back by the end of Season 1. Olyphant was in another of my favorite shows – Deadwood.

[…] was a big week for predators. As Antosca himself noted on HTML Giant, the movie “Predators” was also released on Friday. It is the fifth installment in the […]
The scene where Antwon Mitchell stands on Shane’s neck and turns the tables in season 4 (“Tar Baby” is the title of the episode) is probably my favorite scene in television history. Also, the Shield has the greatest, most perfect series finale of any show I’ve ever seen.
Incidentally, I just saw a Predators commercial. The Pianist looks tough.
Yeah, the Antwon Mitchell arc was amazing, especially Shane’s attempt to be the alpha dog. Goggins was insanely great in the final season. When he gave the extra cash to the cashier in the finale, I barely stopped myself from yelling “no” at the TV. And, yes, that is the greatest series finale ever. I can’t believe I deleted it from my DVR after watching it about 20 times.
