I’ve been obsessed with this song for like 3 weeks now and don’t see it letting up

Specifically, the version on Live Rust, but this version from Hamburg ’96 (~28 years later) is pretty great too.

      Hey Justin,

Did you know Neil wrote this and Welfare Mothers for Lynyrd Skynyrd because he was so stoked they mentioned his name in Sweet Home Alabama? Ronnie Van Zant was a Neil fan he wore a Tonight’s The Night shirt all the time but they declined to cover his songs…

Wow, had no idea. I knew that they were friends, but I had always assumed Sweet Home caused a rift or at least strain, though I also was given to understand that NY was a pallbearer at RvZ’s funeral, so I guess they stayed pretty close despite whatever. Sweet Home Alabama is SUCH a fucked up song. It’s really one of the most disturbing pieces of American pop art I can think of–all the more so because it’s beauty is undeniable. It’s practically a Leni Riefenstahl film or something.
