After that, read this fantastic article about The Landmark Forum from The Believer.

I feel better about myself after watching that.

I haven’t read the article yet but the vid is fucking hilarious. That man going on and on and the cat completely ignoring him as cats will do (except for the chicken.) I was waiting for the guy to try to sell the cat a time share condo in Hawaii.

Good article. I was involved with one of these HPM trainings in the seventies. It was Lifespring, both the first and second levels. Lucky for me I was more like the cat in the video than my other more zealous team mates. I don’t know if this is because I have a cat-like nature or because I was raised by used car salesmen. Snake oil is snake oil. I had some fun though. I got tossed out twice but was let back in both times. Once for being late and once for arguing over that whole you create your entire reality bullshit. And I liked all the hugging. I also frequently showed up stoned which was breaking one of their major ground rules but I’m not the only one, which is one thing the article fails to mention in a glaringly obvious way, at least to anyone who is old enough to remember this stuff. The fact that these trainings or whatever you want to call them were happening during a time when psychedelics flowed freely made it a lot easier to buy into the crap they were trying to feed us. Are still trying to feed us.

Ahh, for the really good old days when Dale Carnegie was teaching everyone how to behave. Of course he wasn’t the first. There was that Jesus guy and before him, well, it’s human nature to want to turn a dime from the marks.
