Wow, this might actually be the absolute nexus of things I don’t care about. Who among you dares gaze into the Borgesian Aleph of nobody-gives-a-shit?

I just read the first nine pages of the document. I’m not convinced…especially in terms of the actual writing- the sentences are quite different- but the storyline similarities are sort of interesting. I actually find copyright stuff sort of amusing. If she took this other lady’s storyline, but then wrote her own book based on it, I’m fairly certain it’s not infringement. But lawyers know when they see deep pockets they can get some money out of her- they will most likely settle. If they don’t settle, it’ll cost the Twilight author TONS more money to defend herself…so settling it the way to go. Sort of like Mr. facebook settling with those harvard jackasses.

But, after that Swedish writer was unable to publish his book here in the us because of Salinger’s lawsuit—anything could happen.

pr- you always want everyone to settle! Sometimes it’s about more than time and money- it’s about the fact that you’re right and the other person is wrong. Despite my headline for this post (which I standby) I perused the complaint also. It’s absolute bullshit, through and through. The idea of the in-utero baby possessed by demon powers is much older than either of these books- it goes back through the ages of folklore, though I’m sure these two got it from Nightmare On Elm Street 5: The Dream Child. See, when your bread and butter as an artist is the horse latitudes of rank cliche, it should neither surprise nor outrage your to find someone else out there on a dinghy of their own. If I write a poem tomorrow called “New York Minute,” am I going to hear from the Olsen Twins and/or Don Henley?

I’m with you, Justin. I said I didn’t think it was infringement. And I am very against the Salinger outcome.

Lawyers who pick up these cases do so knowing full well it’s not worth the other party’s time and money to fight. The thing about settling is it’s just common sense. Follow the case Justin-I’ll bet you a nice dinner that it’s settled out of court ( and that it never goes to trial for two dinners.)

Yeah but how awesome would it be if the case went all Jarndyce V. Jarndyce? We could have that dinner in 2046.
