I had a chance to see “The Torment of St. Anthony” at the Met, and the room where it hangs was surprisingly uncrowded. Anyway, the painting reminded me of Hieronymus Bosch’s visionary work. It would have been great if Michelangelo had continued to pursue horror and the grotesque.
