Great link, Sam. KW is one of my favorite writers.

and that first story – vintage Kevin Wilson

‘kicked one girl so hard in the gut that she made a sound like two babies had fallen out of her.”

I’m in love with the guy I guess, as a writer i mean. come on, stop.

Richard, ain’t that story amazing? KW is one of those writers who consistently surprises and inspires me. I hate the word “inspires” but not sure how else to say it. I can’t read his story without wanting to DO THAT. I can’t yet, maybe won’t ever be able to, but he makes me want to keep at it.

I haven’t read a story by him that I didn’t like. His SS collection is amazing. Also, check out http://www.juked.com/2008/08/vulgarjuice.asp

Great stuff. Totally messed up, but with an underlying thread of something soft and endearing. I like that. It’s also very conversational, so that it sounds like he’s just telling you about this thing that happened, a story from his childhood. NOW…I’m just going to assume this is all fiction, or mostly fiction, but it reads totally, 100% real. This happened. I also love the tie-in to the tar-water and the wolves tearing you in two. Great metaphor for what is happening to him.

Thanks DE. Guess I’ll have to seek out his SS collection.

What a great note, Richard. I’ve loaned out the SS collection to a friend but perhaps we can swap something?

Based on your note, I know you’ll love the collection. You state (much better than me) what it is I love so much about KW’s writing. It does feel so real. And it is damn endearing and conversational.

Shoot me an e-mail/f-mail (no one else on f-naut calls it that but its catchy) if you wanna swap. I’m already harassing my friend to give me back the book as she likes it but is a notoriously slow reader. Kicking myself for once in a while being nice.

heh, and i don’t usually harass people i loan stuff to (unless we’re talking stuff not fit for the giant), but i really do want to get my hands on the book and re-read parts. grand gestures don’t work for me.

No worries DE, I’ll just buy a copy. Enough of this “loaning” and “library” bullshit. Put some duckets in the man’s pocket. I still have a couple Amazon $$$ left from last Xmas. I’ll add that book onto the list. It’s all I ask for, the Amazon dollars. I KNOW, I KNOW it’s evil, but I do support my local bookstores just as much, if not more, but sometimes you have to feed the beast.

Kevin Wilson ripped this story of from Roth’s Indignation. Don’t believe me? Read the book.

hmm, well that’s sorta like the guys in swingers ripping on tarantino for ripping off scorsese and then they go rip off tarantino. not accusing you of ripping off kw, but i think, w/ a few exceptions, anyone at this point can look at anything folks write now and point out older stories/novels/poems that they’re ripping off. i’ve read a number of things by roth and am having a hard time picturing him writing a story like this. even if the plot is the same, i don’t see the stories feeling the same. that said, i’ll definitely look for indignation and see.

good, b/c after i posted i thought about the logistics and thought what a stupid fucking thing that was to offer. he’s a good guy to give $ to.

indeed, i do my share of amazon purchases. i do love the indy book places in bmore but it’s a hike out there sometimes. nice coming home on a friday and finding books on my porch.

it was a green apple. i bought it in a large mesh bag. normally, i select fruit piece by piece, but i think what happened was, the guy stocking the fruit smiled at me when i touched the bag, so i felt like i had to buy it.
