let’s build a golden ark of the covenant to carry in ala raiders of the lost ark.

i’ve never been to awp, but figured it’s close to me this year so let’s boogie.

To quote Step-Brothers: “We’re here to fuck this place up!” Maybe have all Giants wear a tux.

      making it rain
      getting to bed on time
      redefining the term “on time”

There will be very little resistance to the take-over if you go in February.

So, what will we do? Time to brainstorm some ideas, people! Let’s go. I mean, we’re going to make it rain. That’s a given. We’ll be carrying Gene in in a sedan chair. Sure.

But I think we should also have projects. Let’s start with some names and project taglines:

The Unwanted Reading Series—reading where it isn’t wanted
Kidnap Blake Butler—once a day, kidnapping Blake Butler when he is in the middle of an important conversation.
Pretend to be Aaron Burch Day—All Burch, All Whiskey, All the Time.
How Many Times Can You Mention Amy Tan in a Q&A Session? (Self-explanatory.)

MLP is based out of Denver. I’m hoping J. A. Tyler will host a mega reading with a ton of mini-chapbook contributors.

All for Operation Kidnap Blake Butler. Sounds like fun. Blindfolds and such.

I’ll be there. I’ve put up a blog that a few writer friends of mine are going to keep up during the conference. (Near)real time video uploads and posts, mostly. Twitter, twitpic, and youtube feeds too. Here’s the link: http://www.calebjross.com/awpblog

I hope to do a lot of video interviews with authors. I’ve approached Blake about it. He’s agreed. Good man.

I’m hoping to make the blog a bit of a hub for attendees. If anyone is interested in being a contributor during that week, let me know. There is contact information at the blog site.

      Stilts?

How about a panel discussion: “Why I’m right and also better than you at everything”. Which is what all panel discussions are, really.

Literary mad libs. I recommend taking all operative words out of “The Dead”‘s last paragraph.

Maybe awards? The greatest undiscovered discoverer of undiscovered talent?

I think there should be a HTML GIANT spin-off :

      HTML MIDGET ?

for those of us who will not be attending AWP (I had to google it to even see what it was) but are definitely down for “The Dead”‘s last paragraph mad-libbing.

Why not ask at every panel What causes Michael Chabon to have such beautiful eyes? He is the key note after all and those eyes is like sapphires.
Also setting up a bar/dance floor in an elevator would be the heat…

I’m going to be there. 99% sure. Had a blast at the Chicago AWP 2009 and the NYC AWP 2008. If you can make it, go for sure. So many great panels – guys like Brian Evenson, Stephen Graham Jones, editors, publishers, etc. Great readings as well. The book fair alone is worth it, just to get a sense of the literary landscape of today – pick up some new journals/books and get some ideas, talk to editors, all of that. I discovered SO many great journals that way. Some past readers I caught were Amy Hempel, Joe Meno, Irvine Welsh and many more. Very cool.
