Understand, David.  I don’t give a shit who writes and who doesn’t.

-Robert Penn Warren to David Milch, context here. (thnx, M. Bell)

Great writers both. Couple different friends from school worked for Milch as interns or something, had a lot of anecdotes.

Oh yes. That’s awesome. I’d love to hear any and all; I’m a big Milch acolyte.

I just spent the last few days finally watching John from Cincinnati. And I’m reading Victor LaValle’s Big Machine right now, which has some crazy religion in it. As such, my dreams last night were *crazy*! Also: I wish I felt like I better understood JfC.

Victor’s book is badass, isn’t it? Do you love it?

On one of the Deadwood DVDs, there’s a discussion with Milch about the profanity on the show. Milch talks about why he thinks it’s not only appropriate, but completely necesary. The answer is five or six minutes long. It may be the most interesting five minutes I have ever spent listening to someone answer a question.

David Milch appeared a few years ago on the IFC talk show Dinner for Five – hosted by Jon Favreau. He tells his Robert Penn Warren story on that show. The entire story. He’s very good on the show and also talks all about his Yale years and tells a funny story about GW Bush, who was his fraternity brother there. I couldn’t find the clip online.

Yeah, I’m loving it. I’d soooo much rather be reading it right now than struggling with this final paper…
