Manute Bol—RIP, big man—may have been the originator of the phrase “My bad.”

manute was a political prisoner in africa for quite some time. he escaped and fled to america like a common refugee and ended up at some welfare office in boston or philly (i forget which).

bol endured some serious shit the last decade of his life.

he was a sweet, caring individual from what i have heard/read.

rest up big man. you deserve it.

Nothin on HTMLGiant about Ol’ Saramago passing.
It’s like those on Blake’s list of “Towering Living Breathing Genius Authors” are dropping off one by one. Our loss.

I like these quotes from former NBA player Chris Mullin, who was very close with Bol:

“I’m sure going to miss him. Just a great friend of mine. He made me laugh. We all had wonderful times together. I just know he’s resting with God. My prayers and thoughts are with his family.…every moment was an event with Manute. I remember a lot of laughing. He had a great sense of humor. And he was a lot deeper than people knew. He’d been through so much in the course of his lifetime. He had seen so much. He taught me a lot about life, just listening to him and his stories and what he’d been through. Made me realize how fortunate I was growing up the way I did….I think until the end he was a giving person, he really was. Huge heart. He was always trying to give his country what he could.”

Then Mullin laughed recalling a recent Bol-related anecdote. “Just yesterday…I was at a rental car place with my son. Guy there said, ‘You’re Manute’s boy.’ He was a Sudanese guy. My son said, ‘How does he know that?’ But it happens a lot. ‘You’re Manute’s guy.’ Went a lot of places where I was Manute’s guy.”

Apologies, I swore I scanned right back and didn’t see anything.
      Lazy eyes.

      I really really love Saramago.
