top 3 of this year’s awp
-“intimate bathroom reading at a goth club” brought to you by action yes / birds of lace / kate durbin @ neo-TJY & The Actionettes at Multi-Kulti
      -Pop Serial rager

-I read Melissa Broder’s MEAT HEART on the plane and it kills of course, also excited to read the scott McClanan, Sam Pink, & Justin Sirios i gotz.  of course, i was broke so instead of buying anything i bought nothing, but seems like things worked out anyway.

the funniest shit was when me and sarah rose etter and chris kelly and chris’s girlfriend stacy were sitting in a booth before the mutable sound/small doggies/artifice reading at beef & brandy and some woman was sitting in the booth behind us LITERALLY WRITING ABOUT WHAT WE WERE TALKING ABOUT WHILE WE WERE TALKING ABOUT IT in a very dismissive way.  shit was hilarious,

Dogwalk Happen and Fritzlos dressed as women dressed as men dressed as women.

That time I won the arm wrestling contest at the AWP kick off party. (Lindsay Hunter getting a room full of drunks to shut the hell up simply with a story.)

That time I won karaoke at Karaoke Idol.

DJ Berndt announcing that he’s the most eligible bachelor at Pop Serial.

  3. Matt Rowan

Oh hey, look, a liar! Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you, Mason Johnson, a liar! I believe someone else won the arm wrestling competition. Ahem! Someone … else … did … win! I hope I don’t need to spell it out for you, Mason. Just place your correction whenever you’re ready to a.) be a decent person b.) display your deserved humiliation for all to see.

  4. mimi

  16. deadgod

How did you come to learn what she was writing “about”?  (Did you know while she was writing?)

I just realized that I can’t tell if she was writing dismissively (first thought) or you were talking dismissively (also possible) (or both – losing the hilarity that might attach to a contrast).

  43. Tim Jones-Yelvington

I was so thrilled by how the curation came together for our event at Multikulti, I knew I was bringing together kindred folks but you really have no idea how much the pieces are going to be conversing with one another until you see that shit go down. I am so glad we got it all on tape.

  44. Tim Jones-Yelvington

I am jealous of Lindsay, I have to use my ass.

  49. Tim Jones-Yelvington

haha, ill have to get in on the action.

yes this year kind of sucked but we will make up for it someday.

  50. Tim Jones-Yelvington

I do gotta say tho that having you introduce me to Carmen and then having a conversation w/ her that basically consisted of me saying, I wrote a post on htmlgiant abt wanting to see your husbands dick, then talking about PRETTY LITTLE LIARS, was a highlight of this year’s conference.

I met Bob Christgau, which was good. I bought an old Everyman copy of Alexander Pope’s Collected Poems, which is robin’s egg blue, and much more readable than my current copy of his work, along with a copy of Richard Elleman’s Yeats: The Man and the Masks, and a sturdy, sizable edition of Shakespeare’s narrative poems, in the old Cambridge set, which never made for good play-reading, but goes well with these few things. All of those either are, or seem likely to be, good.

  52. Mason Johnson

Competitors were from the following pubs: PANK, Another Chicago Magazine, Artifice, One Story, Tin House, Featherproof Books, Red Lightbulbs, Quimby’s Books, THE2NDHAND, Untoward, & Curbside Splendor.

      YOU MISSED IT

  53. Frank Tas, the Raptor

      :(

  54. Richard Thomas

Yeah, Ear Eater killed. Psyched to read Sampsell’s new WIP, the excerpt was excellent. New PANK looks great. New HOBART, too. Found some weird little journal, Chattahoochie Review, previously unknown to me, with excellent cover art, and work by Aimee Bender, Wells Tower and William Gay, very cool.
