In a fit of nostalgia, I watched an old VHS of Akira the other night, which then inspired me to download the OST. I’ve been listening to it off and on all weekend. It’s actually very decent writing music.

actually the first rule of writing anything ever is don’t use that fucking fight club cliche or i will not bother finishing said text

  50. magick mike

somehow i doubt heather is getting it on with john & jack. john & jack aren’t even getting it on. they are not fucking each other.

  51. magick mike

i am excited to be excited about something again. new tony duvert in translation maybe? i’m hoping edmond jabes fills a void of newness that’s been missing for a while. maybe something else french that i haven’t heard of.

  52. Joseph Riippi

sorry, “pre-lunch anger at my 7:30-5:30 office job”

  54. marshall

      Damn.

It seems like your analysis is pretty good, voorface. It seems like witch house fits pretty easily in the tradition of Gnosticism and the Occult. They’re all about “hiddenness” and “hidden knowledge” and “knowledge of the hidden.” I liked that stuff about the “unpronounceable names” and how they can’t be searched in search engines. That seems important.

Do you know Pictureplane? He’s from Denver. He seems to “have a finger on the pulse” of this dark, queer, magickal shit. He has a blog: http://plainpictures.blogspot.com/

  55. Derek

      Ariel Pink’s new album.

  56. Kevin

      yes to that. can’t wait.

  57. jesusangelgarcia

eeeeeww… that shit was weak. I wouldn’t fuck any of them, and that song — w/ that drum pad, too?! — whack. king night sounds like another band.

  59. voorface

Hadn’t heard of him/it. He/it reminds me of all that mystical 90s stuff around tech and magick. In a good way!

  67. Garett Strickland

I’m excited about the Mighty Boosh documentary JOURNEY OF THE CHILDMEN, as well as their allegedly forthcoming album.

  68. Dreezer

Winter’s Bone the movie is very good, but the novel is the shit. The movie cops out and gets soft in a couple places, including with the ending, with the little sister picking up the banjo. But otherwise, quite good, with fine acting by Jennifer Lawrence (Ree) and John Hawkes (Uncle Teardrop).

  69. Matthew Simmons

      Also, Portal 2.

the guy that wrote the book lives in my hometown, and we (kids I knew in highschool and stuff) were all shocked when the movie started getting praise, won that sundance award and all. all we knew was that it was based on a shitty local novel. am just now realizing how boring this story is.

Really? There’s anybody in your hometown making anything more interesting than what Daniel Woodrell is making? Hot damn, I got to there quick, because if that’s true, Brooklyn ain’t got nothing on wherever in the Ozarks you be.

this salem album is the fucking shit. wow.

  85. Alec Niedenthal

      It hasn’t leaked, has it?

  86. Trey

i phrased that weird. what i meant was my own story about the author being from my town was boring. also meant to say i haven’t read the book or seen the movie, but haven’t been crazy about woodrell’s other books, so assumed it was a shitty novel too. but in general nothing exciting happens in west plains. there was a dance hall explosion once, but that’s it.
