Bought Xbox 360 yesterday. My distant cohort said, “Are you going to get the literary games?” What are the literary games?

What I’ve greatly enjoyed (on PS3, these do both):

      Fallout 3
      Borderlands
      Batman: Arkham Asylum

sean, if i had a console, i would immediately buy one ofthe following:

      dead space
call of duty series and modern warfare series
instead of dante’s inferno, id get god of war
il sturmovik: birds of prey (because i love combat flight sims)
      falloutstuff
      whatever latest grandtheftauto is out
      and a sports game

Without a doubt: Braid (That’s on Xbox Live, not in stores.)
      Bioshock.
I have heard very good things about Dragon Age in that respect, but haven’t played it myself.

OK? I dropped three weeks beer money. It better be re-dunk-cubed.

I need strong games and literary, so I can excuse the not-writing, not-reading, not-running chunks of time.

Always avoided V games due to crack factor. Me competitive, engaged. Will play game until I learn all or game loses. Not me.

Gimme games that are OK crack.

If you haven’t played them on the PC yet, pick up The Orange Box. It contains Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episodes 1-2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2 (which is multiplayer, and I’m not sure how strong it is on the Live community considering I quit playing it about a year ago).

Portal and Half-Life 2 (plus the eps) are what all games should be doing.

The Assassin’s Creed games are good times too.

Far Cry 2. (Ken! Far Cry 2!)

      Bioshock.

      Portal, yeah. The Orange Box.

      Grand Theft Auto IV.

Mass Effect? Haven’t played it, but hear good things.

Haven’t tried Braid, but the guy who made Braid is a fascinating guy.

Another Xbox Live game: Psychonauts. Avoid Brutal Legend like the plague even though the guy who created it is a genius. Get Psychonauts instead.

Soon, Tom Bissell’s EXTRA LIVES: Why Video Games Matter drops. It will help you.

Yes, Half Life 2 is a poetic orgy through the dystopian wastelands.
There are some nice quasi-literarian (i.e. spinning your imagination) games; not sure, if they’re running with xbox:
      Shadow of Colossus (Playstation)
World of Goo (Wii, with music making you cry)
Ico (Playstation, a visual hommage to De Chirico)
Daggerfall (non-linear RPG for PC – make your own fantasy novel without caring about the plot given by authors)
Noctis (PC simulation of star travel – no plot, but endless planets you can visit and explore)
L.O.V.E. – this one is a masterpiece of digital pointillism.

And not to forgot all the literary PC-adaptations by “Cryo Interactive” (alas, they were closed, since all their literary adaptations weren’t successful among the mainstream gamer).

After all, I find every game awesome, where I can just forget about the plot and the quests, and just to stare into the marble animated skies. And imagine the life and pre-history not beeing there.

P.S. And in JSF (Joint Strike Fighter) you can jump with parachute from the airplane and just go along the empty landscapes, pixiliated cities and nothing is your eternal companion but the dawning sky and the calming whispers of the wind.

Not sure if they’re on Xbox for download, but I’ve been impressed with thatgamecomany.com on PS3. They make addictive, plotless games like Flower (where you control the wind and blow flower petals around for hours) or Flow (where you are a microorganism eating smaller microorganisms and adapting to your environment). For some reason their anti-action gesture seems “literary”. Maybe. They’re at least good for downtime. On the other hand Modern Warfare 2 which, despite some problematic ethical issues (like when an 8 yr old calls you a “towel head” after stabbing you in the back), is pretty badass. Assassins Creed 2 is a lot of fun, and in March the new Final Fantasy comes out.

Somebody suggested Dead Space, I don’t know if it’s multiplatform, but I’m playing it on PS3 now and it’s a really good horror survival game. BioShock has also already been suggested, it’s got a decent storyline and solid gameplay. Assassin’s Creed 2 is good, but you’ll pretty much have to play the first to follow the story (2 is way more fun though). And Dragon Age: Origins is a great high fantasy RPG, it’s got an expansion coming out in March (Awakening) and another full title next year, I think. I guess I’m not so much suggesting new ones as reiterating already suggested games :/

i think the best literary game for xbox 360 is not getting an xbox 360 so that you have time to read literature.

      just saying.

actually the one game i can think of is “indigo prophecy” which you’d have to get off xbox originals.
