FLESH FEAST: THE HUMAN BRAIN by socrates adams florou mad me happier than the movie LITTLE GIANTS with RICK MORANIS

socrates adams florou sent me his chapbook FLESH FEAST: THE HUMAN BRAIN a couple days ago. after reading it left to right and assembling the relative meanings of each of the words both singly and in conjunction with each other, i found myself pleased. socrates is a strange man and i think if he were to be in the same room as me i would call him a “vato loco.” the chapbook is in short chapters. it is about a man who lives in a flat. an old man moves in above him. i won’t say too much but the younger man becomes paranoid about the older man wanting to eat him and the younger man stays inside for long periods of time. my favorite line is about the younger man staring at the tv and trying to control it with a nintendo controller after having not left his flat for weeks. the chapbook is cleanly written and it made me feel uncomfortable. if you email him he will send an electronic copy to you.

socratesadams@googlemail.com

there are no more print copies.

that last line seems too severe to end with so:

i like you all a lot.

if i had a shrink ray i would shrink socrates and sam pink and make them fight UFC style in a teeny tiny octagon ring. They would shed enough blood to fill a thimble.

      socrates,

you would be a midget. it doesn’t work very well for them.

      rethink your plans.

hi jereme! post something for me. i am lonely.

  18. jereme

      pr,

i am sad and angry and do not feel like posting and ‘performing’ for people.

this monkey jester is tired today.

i will post something if my estrogen level dwindles.

I love you Jereme. Sorry you are not having a good time today. I am just so happy to be back home -I want to be amused and distracted. But you don’t have to amuse or distract me. I still love you.

I thought about something you said, how there were not any female writers you like –which I have no problem with, read what you want, you know?– but I wondered if you ever read Annie Proulx’s short stories. Bad Dirt is one of her collections. I think you might like her. She’s really straightforward.

  21. jereme

she is the broad who wrote broke back mountain story right?

i don’t think i have read her. i will check it out.

did i say there was no writer i ‘liked’ or felt a ‘connection’ with their writing?

      it is more the latter.

I forgot your exact wording. it didn’t bother me at all, just to be clear. I just like recommending books to people because if you like the book, then maybe you’ll like me. she did write brokeback mountain, which is a great stoy- the movie was whatever. but she writes some really, really great shit. her story “the wamsutter wolf” (in her collection bad dirt) and many many others i think you would like. she also speaks her mind and gets herself into trouble. i have TONS of respect for her. i met her once, but was so shy. She is one of my favorite living writers. I think her novels are not so great. in fact, she said in some interview somewhere that after fulfilling her contract to write another novel, she was only gonna write stories. She is a very very good story writer. And no bullshit- like you like your writers.

      pr,

i have not read enough of your stuff yet to come to a conclusion of like/dislike. i am honest. i will tell you.

i will check her out but i am a little scared. are the literary hipster elite going to make fun of me if i read her and talk about her? i do not want to fall farther out of grace with tao lin and his army of tao lins than i already have.

Ha! Like you care. Don’t those hipsters dudes also read non-hipster stuff, like Yates and Jean Rhys? I am trying to turn you into a spinster chick who read Jane Austen..watch out, man, I’m voodooing on you right now….

Wamsutter Wolf, man. email me your address I’ll send you a book. Cause I love you. For real.

  29. pr

yates’ favorite book and biggest influence was THE GREAT GATSBY. no hipsterness there. I’ve read it three times. Good book.

I like hipster stuff too. I am trying to think of a mean monday post….

  30. jereme

      gena,

it is okay. i am getting sick i think. thanks.

      pr,

you are my awesome. i do not care. i was being passive aggressive and pointing out people who say they possess ‘care free and fun’ attitudes are just as mean spirited and cause the same negative emotions.

i have read austen and fell asleep.

my cat is pregnant. i am well on my way to spinster fun. now i need to start drinking white wines and reading that cathy comic strip.

      pr,

i was going to write a mean monday post about tao lin being the head vampire of the self absorbed vapid hipster writer army. If a person drove a stake through his heart all the other lesser tao lin vampires would revert back to normal and stop being selfish boring scared dicks and maybe go outside and live life and write about something interesting before becoming ash.

but i thought maybe some one would actually try to kill tao lin (probably madore, he seems off in the head) and i would feel bad because i am not a hipster vampire and it would be highly ironic and make me feel really bad so i didn’t create the post.

plus i like one or two of the lesser vampires and don’t want to hurt their feelings directly.

i guess this is my mean monday ‘comment’.

hey pr remember when people wrote to tell stories?

      yeah that was nice.
