Evelyn Hampton posted a behind-the-scenes recounting of her process of learning and moving in the inauguration of her new print journal, Dewclaw, including searching for printers, reading subs, costs, and etc. A great set of observations for those interested in how building a magazine goes. I’m glad the name isn’t actually “Declaw”. That would be a rather tepid journal, I imagine.

      Blake, thanks for the words!

Those who’d like to get a copy of Dewclaw–I’ll have copies from the printer by next week, and some kind of promotional giveaway will happen on Lisp Service (http://lispservice.com).

$ and orders are nice, but so are comments, suggestions, trades, “hi”, too.

I see some stuff bout printers on the link. Between us (me and the HTML world) McNaughton Gunn can fuck up a margin like nobody’s business (and bookmasters sucks cocks with AIDS all over them so stay away unless you want AIDS. which is fine if that’s what you’re into). Tyrant is moving over to Shapco. Try that. Great name for a journal by the way. Best of luck.

Gian–Shapco, the one in Minneapolis? My dad works there. They’re too expensive for my small run of 150 copies. I hope they do right by the Tyrant.

Shapco’s a great printer. They do some of the best catalogs in the country. They’re expensive compared to cheap printers, but they do things like proofread everything that comes in, even if you’ve read it a 1000 times. They saved me from having to reprint a 24-page catalog, which would have cost more than I ever saved at cheap printers. They’re in Minneapolis. I think their webstie is Shapco.com.
