Thanks for posting this, Ken. This is prime Dylan, but it’s also prime Hentoff- do people know who he is? He was a Village Voice columnist for 50 years (till this January) and like a million other things too. You can go read his wiki if you care, but the point is- a living legend, now in his mid 80s.
“I can’t really think that there is any rock ‘n’ roll. Actually, when you think about it, anything that has no real existence is bound to become an international phenomenon. ” I couldn’t agree with Bob more on this one.

Oh, yeah. This is one of my favorites too. Less an interview than a collaboration, by the way.

“Art, if there is such a thing, is in the bathrooms; everybody knows that.”
Nice.

“a dog with his leg caught in barbed wire.”
I read both Chronicles and Tarantula this year and would recommend both. It’s only a matter of time before he gets a pulitzer in literature. Gonna get some tacos and read the rest of this. Maybe I’ll even get the original playboy from 1966. I recently got a playboy from 1967, and besides the sharon tate spread (shot by Polanski) it was worth it for the smell of it alone, a blast back to 1967, and it was only a few bucks on eBay.

Chronicles is his autobiography, its kind of cool of weird and nonlinear the way he tells it. One of the better autobiographies I’ve ever read. I think there’s a part two or something. I think there’s a volume 2 which goes back to his earlier years, where he didn’t spend enough time in volume 1… not sure if vol 2 is out yet.
