“So, it may require a bit of courage to take the decision to grow a beard.”

You have a nice beard, as I recall.

I think Hemingway had the best literary beard.

yeah, my beard is okay.
yeah, my beard is okay.
“beard grooming” is something that jereme does not care to hassle with. i think that makes this quote apply to him more than anyone on the site:
“…the male beard communicates an heroic image of the independent, sturdy, and resourceful pioneer, ready, willing and able to do manly things.”
well yeah but that was back when men acted masculine.
today, it is culturally acceptable to be a very effeminate male, especially in America.

actually, my beard does exist because of a certain idealogy. i’m surprised no one has ever asked me about it.

That may be so, but it’s not like masculinity is dead. And effeminate males have always been, to a certain extend, around too. I guess you have to define what masculinity is.
And I don’t know, I don’t think it is largely socially acceptable to be an effeminate male. To a large extend, like pop-culture extent, for example, there is still a lot of homophobia in American culture (if I may, some gay men are effeminate, i.e. drag queens, etc. and consequently become tagged with the effeminate) because gay rights, now more than ever, are like the Civil Rights of the 21st century. And there’s still a lot of gun-toting and muscle flexing today, which would probably fall under the Hemingway-esque qualities of masculinity, along with terse, tightly-wrought prose.

No, Dostoevsky did.
Or Shakespeare.

homosexuality has nothing to do with being an effeminate male.
why do so many people confuse this.
i remember my boy josh maday writing a post about males in television commercials. he said men were almost always depicted as fat, white, helpless idiots who could not survive without their female counterpart because of her awesome decision making skills.
that’s what i’m talking about.
i’m not talking about wearing pastels. i do it all the time to upset the homophobes.
i like to push boundaries.
i have dressed up as a woman. i’m not homosexual and i’m not effeminate.
this is what i’m talking about.
fuck, we are screwed as males. let’s watch golden girls, eat a pint of iced cream and wait for the end.

I was in a beard growing contest one time. Four months of not shaving left me looking like a fifth grader with red pubes who didn’t shave for four months.
