Also, just got We Take Me Apart from MoGa today, and my Secret Santa gift was the coinsides accordion book and a couple coinsides to go in it from Brave Man Press. Looking forward to filling up the other 12 spots. Also, Jim Harrison’s The Beast God Forgot to Invent from my buddy Peter.

The Historical Thesaurus! Holy cow. I’m super envious, Ken! You should do a post or two about some of your findings from there.

Wow. Y’alls all got some lofty literary gifts. Here’s some of what I got:
1) The Criterion Collection 2-DVD set of Divorce Italian Style. Marcelo Mastroianni is hilarious and so is his hair. Daniela Rocca is hilarious and so is her facial hair.
2) For my coffee table: “When Art Worked: The New Deal, Art and Democracy”.
3) Another one for my coffee table: “The Visionary State: A Journey Through California’s Spiritual Landscape”. Not as reverent as you might think.
4) From my super-nicey-nice sister-in-law who knows I like to read, who is not too sophisticated but not tooooo unsophisticated: “Stones into Schools: Promoting Peace with Books, Not Bombs, in Afghanistan and Pakistan” by Greg Mortenson. Last year she gave me “Three Cups of Tea” and “Alex and Me”, that one about the lady who teaches her parrot to statistically-significantly think or something. Possibly the only book I’ve ever read in one sitting. I must admit I got a little chocked up when ****SPOILER ALERT**** she found Alex dead in his cage.
5) I gave my li’l not-so-much-of-a-reader bro “Eeeee Eee Eeee” by Tao Lin, since he managed to finish SFAA. He accepted it with, well, you know. Ima read it when he’s done.

A nook, lots of gift cards, a subscription to American Short Fiction and Ninth Letter from my sis, Age of Wonder, The Interrogative Mood (which my mom picked out for me–I’d never heard of it but it looks interesting), and some cash from the in-laws. Plus I’m at the airport waiting to fly home, where my secret Santa gift is probably waiting for me. And a new nephew, who I got to meet yesterday.

A space heater, which will in all likelihood actually save my life in my death trap of a walk-in freezer that is otherwise called a “room.” Thanks Mom and Dad!

If books unasked for are a kind of Rorschach test, I’d say you’re doing something right if your own mom gave you the Powell book.
