Jennifer Egan wrote a really interesting (and also unexpectedly moving) article about Lori Berenson, recently paroled in Peru after a very long incarceration. I didn’t realize she was both a fiction writer and journalist.

Oh, word. I was in this theater group in high school that did a benefit thingie for Lori Berenson. I played her father. We met with him and everything in advance. It was actually one of the cooler theater things I did when I still did theater things. Kurt Vonnegut was in the audience because his youngest daughter was in our group.

      – like Marilynne Robinson. It is an interesting cross-pollination and/or cross-purposing of responsibilities, of responsibilities to some ‘truth(s)’.
