Banning books sucks, even if you don’t like the particular authors.

  8. Andrew Tolve

I think some of Sherman Alexie’s work, especially the early stuff, is excellent.

  9. Joseph Riippi

Growing up in Seattle, his work was heralded. Smoke signals was required viewing and The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight In Heaven required reading.

Everything since, though, I haven’t felt compelled to read. I liked Lone Ranger and Tonto a lot in high school. I suspect I wouldn’t anymore.

      Somewhere Barry Graham is crying

Indian Killer is incredible. So much more ballsy than any of his previous books.

i passed through missouri once and only saw crackpipes

  13. Marc

I will pay people in my Missouri home town to publicly ban any book that I write on account of obscenity and profanity.

It’ll only drive book sales once the press gets a hold of the news!

WTF do people care what 7 idiots ban in Stockton, MO, anyway?

Steve Almond and Sherman Alexie fisting in Missouri. That I’d pay to see.

  17. Joseph Riippi

Nice. Will look for it. He has so many books it’s hard to keep track. I really do remember the stories in Lone Ranger fondly.

  18. Trey

I like it pretty OK. But I like it more alone than I like it with people. “Cities” in Missouri aren’t a great place to live, I think.

You’ve obviously never partied in Jeff City, dude. laugh.

that’s true, I haven’t. Jeff City has always seemed weird to me. I guess there are things going on there, but it never seemed like it to me. Must be how other people feel about Missouri in general

I don’t get it… They should ban Bible, in which you also can find concretization of masturbation…
      Hypocrites!..

  40. mts

I agree. I’m sure Alexie is creaming his pants over this. To get a book banned in 2010 in this country is an incrediblly fortunate break for a writer. And to think it is Alexie, who is so unoffensive he should do children’s parties.

  41. Owen Kaelin

Sure, but quoting Sherman Alexie doesn’t get you elected.
