What did you do this weekend that was good? What did you buy this weekend that you think will be good?
top 3 of this year’s awp
-“intimate bathroom reading at a goth club” brought to you by action yes / birds of lace / kate durbin @ neo-TJY & The Actionettes at Multi-Kulti
-Pop Serial rager
-I read Melissa Broder’s MEAT HEART on the plane and it kills of course, also excited to read the scott McClanan, Sam Pink, & Justin Sirios i gotz. of course, i was broke so instead of buying anything i bought nothing, but seems like things worked out anyway.
the funniest shit was when me and sarah rose etter and chris kelly and chris’s girlfriend stacy were sitting in a booth before the mutable sound/small doggies/artifice reading at beef & brandy and some woman was sitting in the booth behind us LITERALLY WRITING ABOUT WHAT WE WERE TALKING ABOUT WHILE WE WERE TALKING ABOUT IT in a very dismissive way. shit was hilarious,
Dogwalk Happen and Fritzlos dressed as women dressed as men dressed as women.
That time I won the arm wrestling contest at the AWP kick off party. (Lindsay Hunter getting a room full of drunks to shut the hell up simply with a story.)
That time I won karaoke at Karaoke Idol.
DJ Berndt announcing that he’s the most eligible bachelor at Pop Serial.
Oh hey, look, a liar! Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you, Mason Johnson, a liar! I believe someone else won the arm wrestling competition. Ahem! Someone … else … did … win! I hope I don’t need to spell it out for you, Mason. Just place your correction whenever you’re ready to a.) be a decent person b.) display your deserved humiliation for all to see.
this doesn’t have to be about AWP does it? because i ate a warm goat cheese and grilled portobello mushroom sandwich this weekend and it was good
oh and i paw-wrestled with my dog
sat in a car for long, had fun
played poker, lost all my money
ate a cheeseburger with a fried egg on it, it was great
bought ‘autoportrait’ (leve) and am very excited to read it
it is not a lie
it is a lyrical comment
get with it mussel beach
Oh crap, Mason is deadgod. Friggin knew it.
that is the lyrical spirit!
I sat in the car some as well.
Hoping these novels by Donald Antrim will be good.
party at my house was fun/funny i thought. glad you came, blake. shitload of ppl were there and ppl were kissing and shotgunning beers and ingesting things off people’s body parts and stacking in human pyramids in my bedroom
got forcibly ejected from a screening of “wanderlust” starring paul rudd with ben brooks, crispin best, cassandra nguyen, maggie lee, michael inscoe, steve roggenbuck for public intoxication. we were being loud, ben and i rolled over some seats into the next aisle, and ben got up and bumped into the screen i think
ben gave me a british copy of his novel “grow up,” excited to read that
when you word fucked me in a bathroom

steve just posted some footage from the party heh http://livemylief.com/post/18805151757/awp-2012-house-party-sexyest-party-footage-of-the
got “crunked” eating 16 – 20 nacho gummi ranch deviled eggs retrieved from Blood Alley dumpster; subsequently forcibly ejaculated from Happy Dog Mom fiasco, book fair, planetarium & Cook County jail.
you’re gettin’ with it!
How did you come to learn what she was writing “about”? (Did you know while she was writing?)
I just realized that I can’t tell if she was writing dismissively (first thought) or you were talking dismissively (also possible) (or both – losing the hilarity that might attach to a contrast).
gettin widdit

It was cool meeting a bunch of y’all! and it was cool hanging out with Mike in particular! Shaking hands was alright, and next time there’s something going on in Chicago I’ll head over.
Took a cab home that night and we went through White Castle’s drive thru and I purchased the cabby a sausage egg and cheese sandwich.
There was karaoke??
Did you go swimming though?
I bought some books from ADP and last night my partner bought me the most delicious Tartufo. We also lounged about and got our nerd on in the form of watching a lot of Star Wars.

What the F is AWP and how much water is in a pound of water (volume please cause I alrady know there is a pound)?
Watched Chicago’s local Christian misinformation channel at length. Bought speculative fiction anthologies. Didn’t give a fuck.
i sat at home & participated in an alt lit tinychat & played songs on turntable.fm with postitbreakup & frank tas

Great sex, great intoxicants, great company, great book (The Physics of Imaginary Objects by Tina May Hall).
But no AWP. Shamelessly jealous of everyone who got to go.
so you were provoking the dismissive (?) commentary okay a haughty stenographic marionette
is it possible she knew that her eavesdropping/commentary were being fed into your talk
Me too. I LOVED Suicide. Next book I buy will be Autoportrait.
Drank at a friend’s birthday, continued to plod through The Charterhouse of Parma, went to City Lights and bought Anonymous Celebrity, Zazie in the Metro and Dust: a Dalkey spree.

a pound of water is ~ one pint
It’s true!
It took me 3 months to read Watership Down and I finished it.
I was so thrilled by how the curation came together for our event at Multikulti, I knew I was bringing together kindred folks but you really have no idea how much the pieces are going to be conversing with one another until you see that shit go down. I am so glad we got it all on tape.
I am jealous of Lindsay, I have to use my ass.
#fuckyeahlilyhoang
you’re a doll, noah cicero.
Aw, TJY, I barely saw you! Waa!
My husband has a hashtag for me: #lilyfuckinghoang, but he’s the only one who’s ever used it.
haha, ill have to get in on the action.
yes this year kind of sucked but we will make up for it someday.
I do gotta say tho that having you introduce me to Carmen and then having a conversation w/ her that basically consisted of me saying, I wrote a post on htmlgiant abt wanting to see your husbands dick, then talking about PRETTY LITTLE LIARS, was a highlight of this year’s conference.
I met Bob Christgau, which was good. I bought an old Everyman copy of Alexander Pope’s Collected Poems, which is robin’s egg blue, and much more readable than my current copy of his work, along with a copy of Richard Elleman’s Yeats: The Man and the Masks, and a sturdy, sizable edition of Shakespeare’s narrative poems, in the old Cambridge set, which never made for good play-reading, but goes well with these few things. All of those either are, or seem likely to be, good.
Competitors were from the following pubs: PANK, Another Chicago Magazine, Artifice, One Story, Tin House, Featherproof Books, Red Lightbulbs, Quimby’s Books, THE2NDHAND, Untoward, & Curbside Splendor.
YOU MISSED IT
:(
Yeah, Ear Eater killed. Psyched to read Sampsell’s new WIP, the excerpt was excellent. New PANK looks great. New HOBART, too. Found some weird little journal, Chattahoochie Review, previously unknown to me, with excellent cover art, and work by Aimee Bender, Wells Tower and William Gay, very cool.
