I drink coffee when someone else makes it for me while wearing a cute green apron and sometimes a smile. I take it in such a manner that it hardly resembles coffee anymore and tastes quite like dessert–vanilla mocha, all the way.

i drink coffee irregularly at best. when i do drink it, it’s black.
when i drink coffee does matter to me because caffeine is supposedly linked to incurring migraines which are a terrible thing to experience.
some questions:
at what point is drinking coffee unhealthy and/or indicative of an unsustainable lifestyle? (i.e. masking lack of sleep or depression, replacement for food/used as a diuretic, etc. — obviously it’s unhealthy if one, like me, has other health problems which are exacerbated by coffee)

monday – friday approx. 8:30AM a ‘double-short’ americano; weekends variable, depending on establishment (ranging from drip, depth charge, americano, cappucinno). i get severe headaches if i don’t get caffeine by 11:00AM. in every case, w/ half n’ half until #8B4513

I think through family tradition, i have one cup every morning, but very creamer-ey. One might not actually call it coffee
I drank it once, from a metal cup at the Morning Glory in Philadelphia, a few months ago. It was tremendous.

7 days a week. Make a fresh pot of coffee as soon as I wake up (bought a French press and my life has never been the same). Then I usually end up drinking the shitty, overpriced coffee they sell at Starbucks at least once during the day.
Black as fuck, usually. Unless my stomach is feeling particularly gouged out, then maybe a little cream and sugar.

Which day do you abstain from coffee? The sabbath? I don’t believe you, sir.

There’s something nefarious about people who don’t need stimulants to be alert.
But I think you get a pass, Dan.

I used to mainline coffee every waking hour through an intravenous drip (or, as I should really call it, a *big fuck-off mug*).
But these days, my dedicated coffee-drinking happens at work. Go figure.
White. Horrible machine coffee. One sweetener. But it’s the only thing that keeps me awake.
I drink it more out of penance and medicinal need than out of enjoyment.

Although I don’t drink that much coffee really, I’ve started getting mild headaches if I don’t have a coffee in me by 12pm. My excuse is there are wonderful coffee places all over Melbourne and I can happily walk past the mocha lattes outside Starbucks on Swanston Street. I have developed a palate attached to a now autonomous aesthetic field of judgement a la Kant as an intractable solution to caffeine-addiction-delusion. Long macchiatos, unless I missed breakfast, then it’s a double-shot latte or a double espresso. I drink green tea from Sayama at the desk.

i got hooked on coffee in 98 working for a big law firm. never have cured myself. i’ve cut way back but whenever i stay up late/wake up early to write…i have at least two boiling cups (make the coffee then heat it up in microwave so it’s just a shade short of scalding)
also, to finish “Joe” last night I had some coffee with all sorts of alcohol tossed in, to honor the guy
Larry Brown makes me want to drink a lot of beer, rum, Schnapps, and mugs and mugs of coffee

I don’t really drink coffee, unless those Starbucks frappacino drinks count, and only drink those on the rare occasions that I can get them free. I never acquired the taste for coffee. Sometimes I try it but I just find the taste foul…

Coffee means a tremendous amount to me. My mugs are so big I can almost fit my face in them. Balzac is basically my hero. I have weird reactions whenever I read the words ‘coffee’ or ‘mug’ or etc. in a book. (One of Rick Moody’s Demonology stories had a line that went something like ‘O coffee, O beans,’ and he instantly became my favorite writer for a little while.) However, I’m lucky in that 1) I can drink a lot of it w/o developing a physical addiction (no headaches if I skip it one morning, etc.) and 2) I don’t drink it to stay awake, either in the morning or late at night. I drink it because it improves my focus and creativity, although I’m not nearly as dependent on it for those things as I once was. (Based on my limited understanding of how stimulants help ADD/ADHD’ers focus, I think that is what’s happening with me and coffee—it gives the vegetal, psychomotor parts of my brain enough background stimulation to allow for intense bursts of thought/creativity.)
In fact, I actually -can’t- use it to stay awake. Every time I try to, I end up falling asleep anyway, and I wake up with some pretty awkward feelings in my tummy. (Anyone else this way?)

The difference is drinking it black won’t potentially make you fatter like drinking it w/ milk and sugar will? What do either of these things actually mean to you, Lily?

I drink it only occasionally here at work. When I drink it at home, it’s always from my french press, and I generally drink kona. If I’m writing, and it’s late when I start drinking it, I’ll season it with some bourbon and sugar. If it’s morning, usually just sugar.

Every morning, between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m.(depending on wake-up time) I go to Circle K and get their cinnamon coffee with caramel creamer.
Getting it helps me stay awake all day with the medication I take.
The creamer is just so I don’t have to wait for it to cool off to drink it.
I suppose going out to get my coffee is my sign that the day has really begun.

drink it every morning, usually one cup at home, and another for the ride to work – i like a bit of milk, whole if you’ve got it, with three sugars and a squirt of chocolate syrup – i know – if i am in the mood to waste money, i take a triple-shot venti mocha from starbucks or in hot weather the venti mocha frap with an extra shot
love coffee, love a good cappucino after a nice meal out

I live with a serious foodie/coffee fiend who makes me a two-shot latte, Peet’s Major Dickason’s Blend, every morning. Like clockwork. He is like clockwork. I live with a man who is like clockwork. It’s weird. Every evening he comes home from work and cooks a gourmet dinner. Like clockwork. He keeps me caffeinated, well-fed, and “on time” if I need to be “on time”. During the day I am “on my own” and “left to my own devices”. It’s schiz-y.
My latte wakes me up. I wake up very slowly. My mug is very big and high-tech insulated. It was purchased at Peet’s, for me, by my clock. I am drinking my latte right now. From my big mug. I am waking up very slowly. I have no idea what I’m doing the rest of the day. Except eating dinner at eight. Sometimes I have to get to work, but not today. I have off until “next year”.

I don’t know, I kind of wished you’d done that intentionally. I like my coffee blake. What would “blake” style coffee be like?
Coffee with blood in it.

I drink about 2 or 3 shots of stove-top espresso every morning to affirm that yes I am alive & breathing. Generally (depending on teaching schedule) I’ll have a soy latte in the later part of the afternoon.
When I’m at home and writing I generally make espresso or French Press (sometimes drip). When I’m editing or working on rewrites I prefer beer or bourbon.

I drink it pretty much all day, every day. With half & half, no sugar. Except when I’m on campus, I drink overpriced things like white chocolate mochas and vanilla lattes, because we only have Starbucks out there and I don’t like their regular coffee.
