i was at a poetry reading last night that was in an art gallery. i could not stop staring at a mounted photograph of a severed buck head on the floor of a wooden shed.

I can’t do purely social things because I get panic attacks. It has to be a business scenario, which puts me at ease, so I recite poetry at Microsoft’s software architecture talks.

having started while driving there, continue texting on what to do later

a couple of weeks ago I was bailed out by a black and white photo of a large bride in a wedding dress, her breasts bared. I imagined I was this large, bear-breasted bride. and well the time and Poetry flew right by.

I have mixed feelings about hipsters, poets and even people texting at poetry readers. I mean it seems so rude. but then again they just seem so happy. and poetry spared. I dunno.

can you give us an example ???

I’m joking about the business poetry readings, but it’s a cool idea. The attacks are real, it’s more likely I’ll get them under the following conditions: 1) event mostly social 2) there are people I don’t know there. For some unknown reason I can still attend networking events and the like which contain some sort of exchange of economic value whether implicit or explicit.

So I can’t go to parties or readings, but tech talks are no problem apparently.

This is a recent thing since moving to SF and I don’t know why it happens and will probably remain a hermit while I’m here.

maybe try going to one of Janey Smith’s 851 “events” ?? … Janey’s really welcoming to all and it’s a good space….

or stick with being a hermit for a while… probably better for the writing :)

      what ‘rude’

      these texts are impor’in’

  15. Rauan Klassnik

      you’re right! it’s the poetry that’s rude!

  16. deadgod

there is not one poet who reads this site who wouldn’t love being called ‘rude’ by the right doofus

but yes interrupting texting with poems is douche-y

I wonder how many of us are thinking the word ‘hipster’ at the same time.
