   I opened a box. It had a dozen books in it that I wanted to read, but probably wouldn’t ever read. I wondered why I ever packed them away in the closet. I put them on the floor next to my bed. They remained untouched. I slept about once a day for three weeks in a bed next to this pile of books on the floor and never once was a cover lifted. At eight o’clock on the fourth Wednesday since bringing out the books I began to think it was time to put them back at the bottom of the closet. I got very anxious and wondered if I had forgotten to read and my apathy was a reaction by my body to disguise the addition of illiteracy to my list of character flaws. My only solution was to buy a bookshelf and put it next to my bed for a final resting spot for the untouched spines.
