The book is as much about life in the ’00s—and the schizophrenic, often abusive relationship most Americans have with their elected officials as well as with their own sex lives—as it is about Smith’s own particular experience in and of the alt-porn sub-sub-culture. We Did Porn is an exuberant, fearless, and badly-needed rejoinder to the mawkish dewey-eyed bullshit that plagues the latter-day memoir. The art’s not half-bad either.

      Zak Smith (or whatever his name is) sucks ass! I didn’t even bother to buy his ridiculous book, but read some pages, and it’s nothing but crap.

      Zak Smith’s art is great, but on twitter he comes across as a complete ass, and he hasn’t got much depth. He seems to think that painting a bunch of pictures of people he knows makes him really cool. I cringed the first time I heard his nasally voice on his dumb TV show. He’s too mature for his current girlfriend, who is much younger than him, and he’s the typical ‘likes younger women’ kinda guy. He should basically ban himself from writing and stick to making pictures. And he should probably learn to make his paintings a bit more interesting.
