      i think, given the recent conversation about gender on here, that this plays on male and female things in really interesting ways, maybe less in terms of authorship than in audience. like it seems kind of self-consciously directed at other men, but more implicitly it kind of presents a challenge women (or at least me) and what they (or at least I) think about men’s masturbatory worlds. it reminds me of these 2 stanzas from Carson’s “Glass Essay”:

      Everything I know about love and its necessities
      I learned in that one moment
      when I found myself

      thrusting my little burning red backside like a baboon
      at a man who no longer cherished me.
      …
      maybe Carson would learn other things about love from this video

      at first i thought this was a gambling metaphor, so i was like if this is four aces, you’re the 48 other cards in the deck the aces have to have to have meaning

      then (probably because i was in a bookstore earlier and saw andre agassi’s new autobiography ‘open’ with the lollingest cover i have ever seen!) i thought this was a tennis metaphor, and it was fun to picture a whole tennis match where every point is scored by aces

      what if that was the only way to score in tennis

      i questioned the barcarolle choice when i watched this yesterday actually. it overwhelms it a bit. maybe its just me and my love for that piece. but i quit listening to what the robot was saying and turned it off eventually and went to my itunes and just listened to it without distraction. chopin is too good sometimes.
