Junior High Dance
- Is my poor boy suffering? Are you Htmlgiant people having fun without me?
No, this is not a picture of htmlgiant contributors rocking out at the AWP. (Yes, I am jealous and bitter.) This is a photo of a junior high dance. My son is at one tonight. I sit at home, worried about him. When I think of junior high dances, only one thing comes to mind: me, at a dance at a roller-skating rink, they play the “slow song”, called, “I Like Dreaming (cause dreaming will make you mine)”, and standing alone watching people slow roller skate, my heart broken in two. Here is an A.A. Bondy song about dancing, and death, and the Rapture:

Hi PR-I have a son in Junior High too (they call it Middle School here). 8th grade. So far he has skipped out on the dances. He’s sort of shy around girls his age I think. I think in a year or two he’ll be going to dances and breaking hearts. High school next year. I hated those years.

although i only kind of like aa bondy, if you haven’t heard his daytrotter session, you should go to this link here (http://daytrotter.com/article/1287/aa-bondy) (i don’t do html, sorry, don’t know how). the song about how you should die, and also the one about vampires, are both pretty slammin.
i am not at awp either.

Thanks for commenting people! I think my son survived. I can’t dig out his heart and examine it though, I can only ask a few questions (too many and he gets pissed.)
sasha- thanks so much for the aa bondy info! i worship him. i worshiped verbena- one of the all time best and loudest live shows i’ve seen..well, up there with ten others or so. But thanks a million.
christ, flash back to catholic grade school, we had “half-days” every wed. and would all go to the roller rink. in 4th grade i was the only boy invited to “my girlfriend’s” b-day party at roller rink, and i had my best friend conveniently show up so we could hang out and play tempest in the arcade. best “couple’s only” song back then was mike jackson’s “rock with you.”

you ignored your girlfriend. you were 10. that is OK. i hope you did skate with her during rock with you. if not that is ok. you were 10. when i was ten i was “going with” donald weinzerl only because our best friends were going together- jenny and eric- and so we sort of had to or something like that. i remember nervously sharing my twizzlers with him and i was so nervous my hands were all sweaty and the twizzler i gave him was slimey from my hand. i am still horrified, 30 years later. also, i was madly in love with eric, my best friends jenny’s boyfriend and remained madly in love with him for a solid 5 years.
sasha- those daytrotter bits are FANTASTIC. I am in heaven. I thought the piece written about him was way out there and sort of cool but I got lost with it. also, verbena’ souls for sale? Really good one. anywho-thanks a million.
pr… i was head over heels over this girl (i still drunkenly google her name but she shares it with a famous sci-fi writer so it’s hopeless) and definitely did the couples-only skate to “rock with you”, it was just the abject fear of all those other girls that inspired me to have my buddy make his guest appearance… and i’m kinda a bro-type dude.
