Daily Moth #4

The new issue of The Daily Moth, the nifty two-page pdf journal that appears only via email and anything but daily, is now out. For our previous Moth coverage (including downloads of issues 1-3) click here. I tried to upload the new one for all of you, but apparently I can’t post files larger than 2mb, and the new issue is 2.4. So if you want it, you’ll need to get yourself added to the email list, which I think you can do by writing to thedailymoth at gee male dockom.

Speaking of free downloadable PDFs, and free literature in general, this is kind of an interesting article in the Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/12/technology/internet/12digital.html?ref=books

I’m sure we’ll be seeing more like it. Most interesting, I’d say, is the variation between author’s responses. From King’s shrug-it-off, “meh,” to Ellison’s over-my-dead-body approach, to Doctorow’s “they like me, they really like me!”

Coming from a place where I’d be happy to get a pat on the head for my writing, let alone a paycheck, I’d say I’m pretty squarely in the third camp. That said, if my agent came to me tomorrow and said, “Good news, I gave your book away today!” I’d probably find myself sympathizing with Ellison.

      justin,

.ZIP the file up and upload. You should be doing that with most all files on the server to save space anyways.

jereme- i’ll see if i can do this later today, when i’ve got a minute to figure out how (i just switched from pc to mac, so even though everything is simpler and sexier, i don’t always know where to find it) but if you’re interested you might as well just join up with them. anyway, if i get it done it’ll be as an update to this post.

I have found Macs to be very unintuitive for my brain cycles. I mean literally i am lost on them.

Just give me a god damn command prompt and let me type or something.

      But I’ve been using a pc/unix computer since 93 or 92. I forget.

I’ll just join the mail list i suppose.
