“It’s that easy to play guitar.”
This is one of the five funniest movies I’ve ever seen.
Garth from Wayne’s World.

“I’m really quite fond of Disneyland. I’ve been there. Umm. Once.”
blas-femur.

This is the American Movie of music. Amazing.

Watch “Everybody Loves The Tinklers” on YouTube. It’s practically a companion piece to The Band That Would Be King. David Fair is in it and is still awesome. (“They claim everybody loves Raymond. How can everybody love Raymond?”)

Maybe, but Half Japanese exists outside The Band That Would Be King more than the American Movie guys exist outside of that movie, in my opinion. Half Japanese didn’t need a movie to define itself or to explain to the audience how to “get it.” American Movie is great and sincere and inspiring, but the project it’s about, Coven (or “Coh-ven”), is not terribly interesting out of the context of the documentary.
It annoys me when Band That Would Be King gets compared to Spinal Tap (not saying that you do, just that a lot of reviews do). Half Japanese makes good music, even if they don’t really know how to play their instruments in a traditional way, because they’re charismatic people and their music is a pure expression of their personalities. A movie doesn’t have to explain that. You can buy most of their albums for $7 each on Jad Fair’s website. Start with Charmed Life, or the 2 disc Greatest Hits.

The high notes are the skinny ones, the low notes are the fat ones…that’s all there is to it. There’s all kinds of music in the world…you might want to learn some other stuff if you want to play that. But! WAIT! NEWSFLASH: You do need cords to plug the guitar in. …requires more commitment from the listener. You should be alone while you do it. WTF? They lack the intestinal fortitude to check this band out… I missed all this info while I was in music school. I could have been such a gooder student if I had had this info.
He’ll even change the way that he talks. this is the perfectest band ever.
