The Moon Tonight Feels My Revenge

I have a new minibook. You can order a copy now. If you want.

There’s some black metal in it. And three short stories.

UPDATE: Can I just point out how awesome my name looks as a black metal band logo?

So you’ve seen Queen Latifah naked?

  17. Janey Smith

It’s so Burzum. Let’s go church burning together.

  29. gabe

Yes! Excited for this. It’s the single, then? Wolf Parts-style?

  30. Owen Kaelin

It’s begging for a second color, though.

…Unless it’s intended to be just barely legible.

Still, I agree it does look cool.

I have purchased this with great happiness and anticipation. Will read it while listening to Bone Awl.

Whoops: I was referring to Matthew’s second posted clip, not the original: that second one appears to be Swedish. I have no idea in the world who the first band is, or even whether or not those are actually words the guy is singing.

It’s an okay song. Not the kind of stuff I listen to, but it’s definitely listenable.

(Also, and this is mostly to JimR: No hurting any animals!)

  37. Owen Kaelin

Oh. Wait, I just checked: Xasthur are from California.

And… I guess Alex was referring to the lettering style, or something, not the music… are there really national variations in the way you do metal lettering? Or are you just being sarcastic?

It seems to me I just ruined everything, too. Before all this: my response was sarcastic as well, and I didn’t even know it.

      Oh, well.

I suppose the brain doesn’t function too well when it’s been up for three days straight.

  38. Owen Kaelin

      Facetious, rather. Not sarcastic.

  39. Owen Kaelin

By the way, Matthew: who did the lettering? (Or am I missing something I should be getting?)

  40. King Kong Bundy

How did I know that would be your oh so original comeback? And your name looks like her pubes.

  41. gabe

  49. Matthew Simmons

      Morning, Owen.

The second band is Finntroll, who are from Helsinki, but do sing most of their songs in Swedish because they think the language sounds more troll-y.

My brother did the logo. He also found the photo that appears on the cover. I asked him to make it mostly impossible to read in the spirit of the greatest black metal band logos.

  50. JimR

I only slaughter goats so I can gargle on their blood, and today I have a dentist’s appointment.

  51. Matthew Simmons

      you seem nice

  52. King Kong Bundy

      you seem nice too :)

  53. Today I didn't even have to use my A.K.

Matthew, do you watch the television show Metalocalypse? If you don’t, I think you might like it.

I have to read Jello before I read Moon. I planned to start Jello this past weekend and then had some kundalini energy accidentally break loose and turned to Celebrity Life & Style magazine instead of books.

This weekend is Jello. Then comes Moon.

Matthew: Troll-y, eh? Hah! That’s hilarious.

I suppose the “Finn” part should’ve tipped me off.

I hear Finnland is generally bilingual — Finnish/Swedish.

On the lettering: cool. And thanks for the link.

Speaking of which (and I’m referring to the photos): whatever happened to men in hats?
We can’t wear hats any longer without looking pretentious.

“Oh… there’s an Artist walking by.”

  60. Matthew Simmons

      I do and I do.

First comes Jello, then comes Moon. Always the way.

  61. Matthew Simmons

The Finntroll singer is apparently a member of the Swedish-speaking minority in Finland. Interesting, isn’t it?

I had a history teacher in high school who claimed that John F. Kennedy was responsible for the fact that men don’t wear hats when they leave the house nowadays. I guess it’s crap, though.

  69. DJ El Toro

I dug your reading at The Nervous Breakdown tonight, and immediately came home and ordered “The Moon Tonight…” Very psyched to read it! Recommended listening as accompaniment?

  70. Matthew Simmons

      Hey Kurt,

I would suggest Xasthur and Wrath of the Weak for the first read-through. After that, I think maybe it would be best to bury the book in the backyard for a day or two. When you have pulled it up, read it listening to WOLD.

And after that, listen to Boduf Songs, Grouper, or Lotte Kestner to put yourself back together. (The dismantling will be WOLD’s fault. Not mine.)
