Erik Stinson—
Because you missed it, Zach German and Adam Humphreys’ disquieting short film “Baseball” is now streaming at portable.tv (scroll down to read a review by Jimmy Chen). See me in the credits and in the deleted scene, to be released never. Full disclosure, portable.tv is the former employer of my horrifically terrible [unnamed] ex-roommate, whose writing and alleged Australian work visa make me want burn New York City to the ground and fight to repeal the first amendment.
a) how do u know i missed it
2) how did he get a visa w/o a name
Good short; the woman’s dismay as he pushes on through with his dopey lie is subtly performed.
I get that he’s not the most self-aware liar (or maybe he knows that she should be able to tell and, knowing that she’s aware of his imperfect memorizing of the book’s opening, he’s being cruel), but why can’t he just say he’s not home? He’s at John’s place, he crashed on Sally’s couch, he’s at Mom’s house, he couldn’t sleep and is walking in the park, etc.
Though, of course, stories aren’t problems to be solved… except that they are also those.
DEADGOD, ZZZIPP ALSO WONDERED WHY HE LIED ABOUT BEING HOME
ZZZIPP GUESSED HE DIDN’T CARE ENOUGH TO ANTICIPATE HER CALLING HIM ON IT
OR JUST ISN’T A GOOD ENOUGH LIAR
OR WAS WORRIED THAT IF HE MADE HIS LIE TOO ELABORATE SHE WOULDN’T BELIEVE HIM
“HEY I’M IN A LOCKED BATHROOM ON THE 21ST FLOOR OF THIS OFFICE TOWER BOY IT’S REALLY QUIET IN HERE HOW DID I GET UP HERE OH HEY CRAZY STORY AND YOU KNOW WHAT THERE ISN’T EVEN A COPY OF ‘THE GREAT GATSBY’ I COULD READ TO YOU WEIRD HUH”
Did anybody see the Cubs / Brewers game on Jun, 26, 2013?

The film reminded me of this.
Perhaps it’s because I can’t read Tamil.
A believable lie would’ve been pretty easy. The effect for me is that the character’s an asshole–unprovokedly callous, one way or another. It’s a well-done vignette.
