      Christ.

I’ll do this instead: Congratulations, Tao. Good that interesting and provocative art is being sold at a major retailer.

I once worked in the office of a wholesale import/distribution company. We had a “where’s my ‘where’s my order’ form form”.

personally don’t lump SFAA w/books about poo, plastic fish eye cams, post secret, where the wild things r at, would u rather books, witty post-its, neon nikes or the capitalization of the animals (owls), but i think i might “be okay with this”, hope he makes some monay.

I wonder which book this will be placed next to. My vote is for the classic F U, Penguin.

Will the Urban Outfitters version of the book be super skinny?

Also, an author getting their book sold in a store is an author getting their book sold in a store, regardless of whether you want to suck Tao Lin off or hit him over the head with a 2×4, this should at least be considered good at that basic level.

The book will get sold, probably, but it will probably also get read 1/3 of the amount it gets sold. That’s the problem. I’m not attempting to say that folks shopping at Urban Outfitters don’t read, I’m saying that Urban Outfitters appears market books as “shelf-accessories” rather than things to be read. UO sells what? 15,20 different books? Of those books, most of them are simply novelties. For some reason somebody in the marketing team has decided that Urban Outfitters will market: Death Of A Salesman, The Catcher In The Rye, and Choke. I have no idea why. But these books are presented in the store the same way action figures of Tofu are presented. Things to place on a shelf and look at and think are cute. Maybe that’s all those particular books are good for? I don’t know. I don’t think so and hope not. But there is a danger that Tao’s book will turn into that Tofu Action figure. And while a lot of people already think it’s no better than the Tofu Action figure ( I, for one, only think it’s slightly better) it still has a lot of POTENTIAL merit, IF people DO read it.

      I don’t know what I’ve just said.

Hmm, trying to choose between sucking Tao Lin off or hitting him over the head with a 2×4. Probably it would be fun to do both. I imagine he would endure either experience with his signature equanimity and reserve. I imagine, if I were blowing him, and he expressed nothing more than his signature equanimity and reserve in response to my exertions, I would probably think “I want to hit this guy with a 2×4.” Or maybe I would think “Jeez, this guy is unresponsive–has he been hit with a 2×4 or what?”

Lots of things to be excited about!

I hope he makes some, too. I’m 100% in favor of this development. The only way this could be better is if it was actually at AA instead of or in addition to UO. Maybe the random craptable at the lifestyle-choice clothing store will be what saves literature. Or just saves Tao from the horrors of a dayjob. That’s not ironically meant, either. Dayjobs suck. I wish nobody had to have one. Libertad!
