I noticed a couple days ago that there’s a countdown on the bottom of the Marvin K. Mooney Society homepage. It was at five then, and now it’s at three. I am drawing the conclusion, I think rightly, that there are three days till we learn what exactly the MKM society is.
Am I the only one confused and a little discomfited by this thing? Who is Marvin K. Mooney? Let’s point fingers at people. I think it’s some creepy editor at Harper Perennial. Or maybe James Franco’s pseudoynm.

Feels like a story. But is there a Why?
I’m in two minds about this business. Firstly, my conservative bits (yes, I do have them) are suspicious of all the stuff going on that has no concrete bearing on “Marvin’s” writing itself – but then my vapid avant-gardism finds it interesting. But then it’s kind of old hat as well? I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that there was no real Mooney, and it was another “critique of the idea or the author” or some shit, which is boring as hell and been done too many times.
And I have to say – the few peices purportedly by MKM I’ve read, while not being bad as such, aren’t hugely interesting either. This may change ion the context of a book (and without the distracting of shit hanging arounf the name) but I’m underwhelmed. Hype does that I suppose.
