      I wrote a poem about David Foster Wallace.

      DAVID FOSTER WALLACE, AUTHOR OF “AN INFINITE JEST”

      we call him DFW
      he is an acronym like NFL or USA
      was he a genius?
      he won the macarthur fellowship
      also known as the “genius award”
      was he sad?
      he was very sad
      he wrote books about feeling sad and tennis and other things
      is the sadness of a smart person deeper than the sadness of a stupid person?
      i don’t know
      the smart person is smarter, though
      DFW was very sad and very smart
      he hung [sic] himself
      (did i do that right?)
      in the script of “little miss sunshine,” dwayne says
      “fuck the macarthur foundation”
      but he doesn’t say this in the movie
      (dwayne was the colorblind kid with the nietzsche shirt)
      i say, “fuck little miss sunshine”
      that movie wasn’t even that good
