WHAT IS A SCENE?
people use the word scene for many things. like, music scene, there’s probably a rollerblading scene, and maybe a cooking scene. what is a scene and how does it apply to internet literature? and is blake butler racist?

blake butler is not white.
he’s burnt ash embedded in adipose tissue.
whoever don’t know that is dumb.

if skateboarders are the new “jocks” then rollerbladers are the new “skateboarders…”
for real…

i always feel like i am being baited into a fight with these questions. some one is going to argue with me and i am going to revel in the confrontation and then rascist ass blake is going to yell at me.
i think ‘scene’ holds a negative connotation. the best definition i can think of scene is something organic becoming diluted until the original concept is lost.
a major attribute of a ‘scene’ is establishing one’s identity through conformity.

oh and who cares if blake is racist?
i mean i do not personally know if he is or he isn’t but what significance does it hold?
people are dumb. i guess no one has paid attention to the numerous posts blake has made of his preference to several black musicians.
this is stupid. i am racist against people. they are fucking worthless.

i think “scene” is like the negative connotation version of “community,” implying a community that’s superficial, fleeting, lasting as long as a scene in a larger act and full of people only around to be “seen”
i feel like it’s possible, as with most words that have negative connotations, to “take back” scene–for example, there’s something smaller than community about the word scene, the idea of all these people being on a certain stage at the same time, which could potentially be a good thing
but i don’t know how much it’s worth to argue for the merits of the “scene” as an organized entity when there are better words

in other words, i would be interested in hearing someone argue for the merits of a “scene” versus a community or a group or whatever

A scene is when you find yourself at parties with dudes ironically playing dice for crumpled dollar bills.

I think scene is slang for common aesthetic. It differs from community in that it doesn’t function as a hole. It’s a thread through a fabric, not a quilt that you sleep ‘neath.
i think that there is an internet literary aesthetic that trends toward the brief and less realistic.
i think there are online magazines that attempt to be a part of the print literary scene (blackbird, narrative).
i think that blake butler is white and from georgia, and while he might not be himself a racist, he must know many racists, and therefore has heard more racist jokes, which he probably tells when he is drunk or around racists, but everyone tells racist jokes. though i’m not sure what that has to do with toni morrison.
