Why didn’t Sedaris show his face? There was an ad in the AWP Conference manual thing that had a bunch of pictures, but the photo under his name was that of a cartoon character. Did something happen to him facially?

Context is everything, c.e. and Matthew. I was referencing what I thought was a fairly well-known letter from W.C. Williams to Robert Creeley. “Dead, stinking dead,” is a direct quote. And I’m pretty sure I was speaking in generalities, not about the specific poem that was handed to me, which I actually quite enjoyed. The filmmaker cut the part where I attributed the quote. The question I was asked was “what makes bad poetry?” and I don’t recall everything I said, but the WIlliams letter was presented as someone else’s opinion, not my own.

fantastic.
fantastic.
Looks fantastic – my worst fear is that I end up being the focus of such a movie which would then be seen by no-one.
david sedaris has a severe case of photophobia so his face can’t ever be lit

I hate answers like the one DA Powell gave…
But, Saunders redeemed with the boner-quip.
Looks like it could be an interesting movie.

yes, powell really turned me off
the worst was his pausing to emend ‘dead’ to ‘stinking dead’, as if this were a crucial nuance and not an empty and utterly conventional phrase
am suspicious bulk of film will be similar ad hoc prescriptivism
one third that and one third the fat man hamming up his mantle as the dunce & the fool re: intercom scene and one third something good maybe
