Fourteen Hills, WTF?
Fourteen Hills, I respect you, you had a cool anthology, and I’ve sent you stuff before because I like you (and will probably send you stuff again), but couldn’t you have just pretended this particular 775-day form rejection ‘got lost in the mail’? I mean, I understand shit sometimes falls behind the mini-fridge, but two years? Good grief – next time, just take the SASE and use it for yourself. Nobody will ever know.
What’s great about this is I can’t tell who has the better sense of humor: the author who reported this rejection on Duotrope or whoever on your staff decided to write this bit of copy: ‘Fourteen Hills is a testimony to the fact that independent, innovative and experimental literature is alive and thriving.’

i think its the form rejection that does it, sometimes, you know… i wouldnt mind the long rejection, if it came with a personal rejection. i tend to believe long (and by long I mean a year and a half or so) deserve a personal rejection at least

hey v. i dont think its necessarily because they want to be rude or look exclusive. i just think it was an oversight.

Wow, that is insane. I’ve been waiting 4889 days on St. Ann’s and basically just gave up. What I don’t get is when the guidelines say 90 days and then it takes 400. WTF? This 700 day thing, man, if I wasn’t totally pissed off I’d probably laugh until I wet myself. Thanks for the post Ryan, good stuff.

St. Anne’s Review is a joke…they still have stuff from me that I sent 90 years ago. They should just say in their guidelines–“we only contact writers if we accept their work.”
