Rumpus/Giant/6word Contest: WE HAVE A WINNER

Congratulations to JENNIFER, for her winning entry in yesterday’s contest. Here’s what she wrote-

I have always been my opposite.

[Middlesex, Jeffrey Eugenides]

Runners up, honorable mentions & other details after the jump, but first: TO ALL THOSE OF YOU WHO DID NOT WIN / ENTER: WHY NOT COME TO THE EVENT ANYWAY? TICKETS ARE STILL AVAILABLE, AND THE LINE-UP KEEPS GETTING BIGGER AND MORE AWESOME. THIS MORNING THEY ANNOUNCED THE ADDITION OF AMANDA PALMER FROM THE DRESDEN DOLLS.

Hot stuff there, Jennifer. Now all you have to do is get in touch with me so I can figure out how to get you your pair of tickets. Leave me your email on a comment on this post or you can go to Justindtaylor.net/ and contact me via the email address provided there. First runner up is Lauren, who wrote about Francesca Lia Block’s Girl Goddess #9: “Banned in Florida for promoting homosexuality.” Damn right that’s the state I come from, Lauren, and if Jennifer doesn’t turn up within the next 24 hours, them tix are yours. But. If Jennifer doesn’t turn up and Lauren falls down a manhole, then the tickets will go to John Madera, who wrote of Eugene Lim’s Fog & Car, “Crash course in post-divorce pandemonium.”

Some honorable mentions: HTMLGiant alumna Soffi Stiassni, on La Diva Nicotina: The Story of How Tobacco Seduced the World by Iain Gately: “Montezuma’s real revenge was nicotine.” Not only is that awesome, but she did it with a word to spare. Thing is, I happen to know she’s in California right now, so. Also, davidpeak on William Gass’s The Tunnel: “His beautiful navel contained no enlightenment.” I really dug this entry, because it’s funny and because it’s a critical review, but the contest was to write about the last book you loved, and I was left uncertain as to whether dp actually liked the Gass or not.
