There will always be a poem
I will climb on top of it and come
      In and out of time,
Cocking my head to the side slightly,
As I finish shaking, melting then
Into its body, its soft skin
      –Jim Carroll, “Poem”
      from Void of Course

I love Jim Carroll. Really, really sad to hear that he died. Love his poetry and prose, and his stuff was a big influence / inspiration to me. “Forced Entries” is a really amazing, and under appreciated book.

      They can’t touch me now
I got every sacrament behind me:
      I got baptism,
      I got communion,
      I got penance,
      I got extreme unction
      I’ve got confirmation
      ‘Cause I’m a Catholic child
      The blood ran red
      The blood ran wild!
      Now I’m a Catholic man
I put my tongue to the rail whenever I can.

I loved him too. Living in NYC in the 80’s, I listened to his records constantly. The perfect soundtrack to the life I was leading. Didn’t read his work till later.

      I crawl across the bed
      Playing the radio low
      Trying to forget
      What I already know
      And I want to sleep
      But the song never ends
      It comes from a place
Where they dance the night away
