MJ is great. Have you noticed that she gets that stupid kind of ‘I hate her because she’s popular’ kind of backlash? It’s too bad because she’s really good.

She bores me. Her popularity has nothing to do with it.

I have a thing for her, too.

Yeah, I was just had a long talk with a relatively large table of writers and artists about whether they were saying they didn’t like her because she was experiencing the Dave-Eggers-Effect and how she was just so ‘precious.’

I’m sticking to my guns – I don’t think I’ve seen her done anything that qualifies as ‘sell-out’ to me. In fact, maybe I’m out of the loop, but has there been anything since the Learning to Love You More art book?

She can still brighten my day.

Isn’t it more lame to do a flipperoo and start acting all hoighty-toighty when someone you like gets lots of attention?

Also, there were like 3 people at the table who didn’t even know who she was, so how popular is she?

  19. Eh

I think people hate her because she is a so-so hipster writer who people like because she is cute.

Her book could have been pretty good, but the stories read like second drafts.

      I’m in love with her.

  22. Eh

Who has ever called her a sell-out? Again, she just ins’t that great of a writer, though she is hardly horrible.

at tao’s reading at pegasus in berkeley, the guy who was talking here http://vimeo.com/6893729 went on to describe mironnda july as part of the ‘triving east coast literary scene.’

tao politely informed him that july lives in LA & i added that she was from portland before that. dude seemed amazed to discover that writers live anywhere besides nyc. wanted to tell him that i too was amazed to find that anyone lived anywhere besides nyc. it’s just amazing.

Thanks for posting that Joseph– I hadn’t heard that before. It’s pretty fantastic.

For what it’s worth, I enjoyed her book of stories. Sure, maybe it’s not THE BEST BOOK EVER, but you know, very few books are. And most short story collections are uneven, even by great writers.

In ant case, I thought it definitely had some excellent stories, and there’s a least one I’ve gone back for more than once.
