I had a dream in which I posted something on HTML Giant. When I woke up, I couldn’t remember the post, only that I thought it was pretty good. What do you think I posted about?

Remember when I said that thing about how all communication was inherently musical?

Yeah. I was wrong. Sorry, everybody. My bad.

And we have a winner…

If only Bush had been a little more horrible

If only Bush had been a little more horrible

And, no, it’s not Don D., or Roth. A German-Romanian Cruella De Vil lookalike took home the sort-of coveted literary prize, over some other writers who may possibly have deserved it more, despite not living and working under the thumb of a Romanian despot. But, hey, we can’t all be so lucky. Not to take anything away from Herta (sorry about the Cruella thing), but, uh, really? This is worse than that time in 1997 that Dario Fo won, an egregious event that I just read about last week and have been outraged by ever since. Politics? Art? Europeans intimidated by our raw American power and awesomeness? I feel like I need to write a strongly worded letter to someone, but the thing is is that baseball game is on in three hours, so I have to read some pregame analysis and be glad my national sport isn’t soccer, a game for cowards.

Boo, I say.

Project Dust World considers the new issue of New CollAge

webflipcover

One of our regular & distinguished commenters, Michael James Martin, has some work in the new issue of New CollAge magazine, the magazine of–wait for it–New College, in Florida. Over at his site, MJM peruses the issue, which contains work by such luminaries as Dean Young, Matt Hart, Peter Jay Shippy, Emily Kendal Frey, and many more. It also contains a poem by yours truly. I’ve also got a copy of the issue sitting on my desk, and had been planning to write about it when I had a free minute to do more than just browse the thing (est’d occurrence of free minute: Nov. 7th, 5:42 PM) but since MJM nailed it, I’m just going to go ahead and direct you over his way. You can also view some excerpts from the issue (though not mine or his) over at the New CollAge website. Cheers, Michael! And a hearty cheers as well to Alexis Orgera (ed.) and the staff at New CollAge.

Word Spaces (17): Heather Christle

Today Heather’s The Difficult Farm is officially arrived and live from Octopus. If you’ve preordered, I believe they are forthcoming. If you haven’t, you should now.

On the event of this event, Heather has kindly shared some talkings about where she makes her words:

Where I write I have only been writing for three months if we are talking about the room.  If we are talking about the chair then it has been just over four years.  If we are talking about my head we should talk about what we talk about when we talk about my head.  You go first.

Once I drew my chair when it was new (to me) and I had fallen in love with a man who had gone away for a while.  I sent him the drawing and because I married him we still have it.  The problem is that he looked through many files and areas and he can’t find it.  He did find this postcard:

Never mind.  It works like this:

Hustler

Seth Harwood is a hustler.

He’s so knowledgeable about podcasting, video-posting, eBook-pricing,  iPhone-apping and what is now called (nostalgically by everyone but me) “the Amazon Rush” that I wanted to run the other way.

The Goldberg Variations Variations: ‘an audio work that simultaneously plays ten different synchronized recordings of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Goldberg Variations BMV 988. The beginning of each variation is synched, but after the first note, the performances fall out of step due to the differences in their tempos.’  Beautiful.

Help Ben Brooks Buy a New Computer

ben brooks needs a new computer to keep typing.  please donate some money to him.  he wrote FENCES.  that is enough to warrant giving him money.  he also has two more books slated for publication.  if you don’t donate money he may never have the resources to realize his novel about vampires that are good looking teens and have sex with each other.
